While frying, cooking or just preparing any kind of foods using oil, the oil will always splatter everywhere-on the countertop, stove, on the floor and on any other surface that is within reach of the splatter distance. This is the same problem that was experienced by Yair Reiner, the founder of the Gowanus Kitchen Lab.
Although there are many kinds of screens that could be placed over the frying pan, they don’t always offer satisfactory results. Well, they reduce the splatter, but you will have to remove it to add new ingredients or stir and this makes it possible for the oil to scatter. This screen also cause blockage of the food, so most cooks who prefer seeing their foods cook will not have a clear glimpse.
In 2015, Yair Reiner, MBA graduate from the Stern School of Business, who then was working at GE Antares, New York tried to find a solution to this problem by using a mixture of two part silicone that he bought from the web. He created the first prototype of the Frywall which was cone shaped and which covered a frying pan superbly well. This product is designed in a manner that sits on the rim of the frying pan and this makes the surface of the frying pan available for your use. This experimentation worked superbly well and Yair produced something that would b of great use to cooks from all over the world.
He had incorporated Gowanus Kitchen Lab, LLC by the December of 2015 and started making the right contacts for the launch of his newly created product. Since he was a passionate cook, he approached the task with the same level of passion and zeal he has for cooking. In March 2016 he attended the International Home & Housewares Show in Chicago, Illinois, where he got several mentions in respectable blogs and popular food preparation websites.
Came July 26 2016, he started a KickStarter campaign with the goal of making sure that he got $10,000 support to facilitate fast production and distribution of this awesome product. A month later, the campaign had done exceedingly well, getting 338 backers who raised a total of $16,443. Pledges came from countries all over the world that include the US, South Korea, France, Germany, Italy, Israel and Abu Dhabi among other nations.
Yair also appeared on The Pitch, a popular American podcast that is hosted by Josh Muccio.
He appeared -on August 3, 2016. On 22nd September 2016, Frywall was indeed lunched on the Grommet, which is a web based platform for consumer products from independent makers that are still in the first stage. It’s important to know that Grommet is quite an exclusive site that accepts only 3% of all the products which it reviews. In the April of 2017, the founder of the Gowanus Kitchen Lab appeared on the Today Show, winning the Next Big Thing Challenge that allowed him pitch his new product on QVC on the April 22, 2017.
